Medical Support Specialist

Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Medical Assistant to join our team at Northwell Health. The successful candidate will provide high-quality patient care and support to our clinical staff.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, ensuring cleanliness and availability of necessary equipment and supplies.
- Interview patients to obtain medical information and perform measurement and screening procedures.
- Prepare patients for examination and treatment.
- Obtain patient vital statistics, including height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and head circumference.
- Record findings in patient medical records and inform clinicians of results.
- Obtain specimens from patients, as directed by clinicians.
- Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, completing requisitions, labeling, and routing according to established procedures.
- Perform electrocardiograms (EKGs), as required.
- Assist clinicians during examinations, procedures, and treatment, as needed.
- Secure necessary supplies, tools, and equipment for specific procedures.
- Ensure patient safety and comfort during examinations and procedures.
- Provide requested instruments to clinicians during procedures and assist in positioning and holding patients, as required.
- Assist patients after examinations, procedures, or treatment.
- Prepare, sterilize, and calibrate equipment, informing supervisors of malfunctioning equipment.
- Adhere to infection control standards in the performance of duties.
- Perform related clerical duties supporting operational needs.
- Participate in patient registration, as required, processing insurance forms, certifications, physician orders, prescriptions, etc.
- Ensure required patient information and documentation is available in medical records.
- Schedule and confirm patient appointments.
- Place, receive, and direct phone calls.
- File, copy, and distribute documentation, as required.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent, required. Successful completion of a six (6) month to one (1) year course in Medical Assisting at an accredited school OR 1-3 years of medical assistant experience, required.
The salary range for this position is $22-$25/hour.
