Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Superintendent to join our team at Southland Industries. As a key member of our construction team, you will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of our safety program, ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations, and coordinating with subcontractors to deliver high-quality projects on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the implementation of our safety program, ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations and site-specific safety requirements.
  • Participate in safety/incident investigations and reviews, ensuring timely responses and documentation of actions/corrections.
  • Complete and/or review all safety-related documentation in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate and participate in site-specific OSHA inspections, investigations, claims, and government inspections.
  • Ensure first aid kits are complete and contents are current, and confirm a medical facility is secured for employee drug-testing and minor medical emergency treatment.
  • Ensure good housekeeping practices are observed and maintained by crews and subcontractors.
  • Ensure the work area is secured each night.
  • Provide leadership and direction to foremen and general foremen, ensuring they efficiently complete assigned duties.
  • Communicate frequently with company personnel and subcontractors, ensuring they understand the work, planned approach, and potential problem areas.
  • Assist in resolving construction problems, such as lack of productivity, work interfaces, material shortages, etc.
  • Maintain good relationships with inspectors, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and other key people connected with the project.
  • Accompany inspectors on project reviews.
  • Establish ways to motivate and keep personnel/subcontractors/suppliers and service providers' productivity and morale at a high level.
  • Attend pre-construction and construction meetings, and technical meetings to discuss job progress and problem areas.
  • Determine production sequence, coordinate assigned work with different crafts, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Maintain and update the 3-week project forecast to ensure materials are ordered and scheduled for delivery, equipment is requisitioned on time, personnel are scheduled, and subs have confirmed their schedules.
  • Review RFI logs continuously, identifying issues that might affect the project.
  • Ensure all change orders are properly executed and indicated on as-built plans.
  • Maintain liaison with engineering, estimating, and planning to ensure work complies with drawings, specifications, and schedule.
  • Maintain liaison with other departments (logistics, purchasing, quality control, safety, engineering, etc.) to ensure all required materials, equipment, inspections, etc., support craft activities and project schedule.
  • Maintain close communication with the project manager on any unforeseen problems that develop.
  • Ensure the work meets standards, implementing work processes to improve productivity and product quality.
  • Oversee subcontractor productivity, ensuring contractual obligations are honored.
  • Review inspection reports, documenting resolutions to deficiencies.
  • Review timecards, code invoices, document additional work and back charges, maintain accurate as-built drawings, and complete start-up and tool/equipment transfer forms.
  • Complete the superintendent's daily report each day.
  • Ensure Task Hazard Analysis (THA) is performed and recorded daily at the start of the shift and before any tasks are performed.
  • Keep the progress schedule current, assisting the project manager in calculating percent completion on items for monthly invoicing and labor for each job cost report.
Requirements
  • Completion of a craft apprenticeship program or equivalent skill level and training.
  • 5+ years in a supervisory position.
  • Ability to understand project scopes and objectives, as well as scopes of other construction trades.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of OSHA safety regulations, as well as company safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to read drawings and interpret specifications.
  • Ability to assess crew and foremen skills and coach/mentor.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve problems before major difficulties develop.
  • Ability to manage differences and diversity at the workplace.
  • Advanced understanding of construction scheduling and cost control.
  • Ability to handle administrative duties of the position, including completion of required paperwork.
  • Effective use of computers and other technology.
  • Ability to effectively use time management and goal-setting.
  • Willingness to be held accountable and act honestly and with integrity.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to remain diplomatic and calm under pressure.
  • Employment is contingent upon satisfying all jobsite-specific access requirements, with no outstanding restrictions from any jobsite or from working with any of Brandt's partnering General Contractors, Owners, Customers, etc.
What You Bring to the Table
  • High school degree or equivalent; some college preferred.
  • OSHA-30 certification (if not currently certified, must be obtained within six (6) months from date of hire).
  • An active Texas Journeyman Plumber license may be required for individuals overseeing work in this field.
