Position Overview

As a key member of Stantec's Federal Buildings sector, the Lead Mechanical Engineer will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our mechanical engineering practice. This senior-level position requires extensive experience and established relationships within the architecture and engineering industry, focusing on the strategic and tactical leadership of our Mechanical Engineering discipline.

Your Responsibilities
  • Provide organizational leadership and contribute significantly to the growth of Stantec's Mechanical Engineering practice.
  • Foster and maintain strong industry relationships with clients, sub-consultants, and partner firms.
  • Lead the development of project proposals and assist in creating marketing materials for mechanical engineering services.
  • Mentor and manage HVAC and Plumbing project managers, designers, and CAD/Revit production staff.
  • Forecast staff needs and assignments based on workload and subject matter expert requirements.
  • Ensure accountability among project team members for delivery standards and best practices.
  • Oversee the financial performance, quality control processes, and project delivery for mechanical engineering projects.
  • Collaborate with project managers and subject matter experts to deliver high-quality client drawings, specifications, and reports.
  • Manage complex projects, ensuring compliance with technical, contractual, and budgetary objectives.
  • Act as a quality control reviewer for mechanical engineering projects.

Technical Leadership
  • Stay informed about operational, technical, and regulatory changes within the mechanical engineering field and integrate this knowledge into existing processes.
  • Update mechanical engineering specifications and standards in collaboration with senior technical resources.
  • Oversee the delivery process of mechanical engineering design and coordinate with other disciplines.
  • Support the education and certification process for mechanical engineering staff.
  • Maintain current knowledge of technologies and trends impacting Stantec's core services.

Qualifications
  • Proven experience in delivering mechanical engineering consulting services to federal clients.
  • Strong project management training and experience.
  • Demonstrated success in client consulting within a consulting engineering environment.
  • Track record of hiring, developing, and retaining top talent in the field.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 15 years of relevant professional experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in managing mechanical engineers is essential.
  • Professional Engineering license is required.
  • Experience with federal projects is preferred.
