Position Overview
The Senior Director of Risk Oversight is accountable for the effective administration of the Risk Management Program across multiple healthcare facilities. This role includes managing the event reporting system and ensuring thorough follow-up on incidents, compliance with regulatory standards, and communication with insurance partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead risk management initiatives to optimize resources and implement risk mitigation strategies throughout the organization.
- Identify and pursue opportunities for loss prevention to enhance safety and quality of care.
Risk Management Duties
- Supervise the organization's response to critical incidents; analyze facts, review documentation, and gather evidence; conduct staff interviews; and ensure effective corrective action plans are established and monitored.
- Be prepared to address risk scenarios that necessitate immediate intervention.
- Collaborate with clinical leadership on peer reviews and quality management processes.
- Facilitate on-site regulatory visits and respond to complaints, ensuring adherence to healthcare regulations.
Patient Relations Management
- Oversee the complaints and grievance process, ensuring compliance with healthcare licensing standards and regulations.
- Engage in proactive management of patient concerns in partnership with clinical teams.
- Act as a liaison between patients, families, and healthcare providers to resolve issues effectively.
- Monitor and analyze trends in complaints and grievances, reporting findings to leadership.
- Participate in bioethics discussions and individual patient case reviews as necessary.
- Support case management and clinical teams in guardianship matters.
- Manage language translation services for patients and families, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and providing education to staff.
Training and Education
- Educate team members on the role of risk management and promote its accessibility as a resource.
- Provide training and education to nursing and medical staff based on identified needs through case reviews, including topics such as documentation, incident management, and hospital policies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
- Relevant licensure is required.
- A minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in a complex healthcare environment is essential.
- 3-5 years of leadership experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
