Position Summary

The Application Configuration Analyst A is a pivotal role within FirstEnergy's Transmission Control Center, collaborating with a team of analysts and engineers to support the Energy Management System (EMS) and associated applications.

This critical, real-time application operates continuously to oversee and manage the power flow across FirstEnergy's transmission network and its interconnections.

The position offers flexibility, allowing for remote work with occasional on-site requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze business operations to deliver scalable, reliable, and cost-effective solutions.
  • Oversee third-party vendor software on FirstEnergy's standardized infrastructure and network platforms.
  • Coordinate the testing and implementation of software patches and upgrades.
  • Provide support for real-time SCADA software and database configurations.
  • Maintain integrations and interfaces between FirstEnergy's real-time systems.
  • Conduct system security administration tasks.
  • Assist with GE's Historian and Source products and Oracle databases.
  • Facilitate data extraction and transformation using GE tools and Perl scripts.
  • Develop data queries and reporting solutions tailored to customer needs.
  • Support enhanced visualization initiatives for FirstEnergy's transmission control rooms.
  • Assist with GE's Control product on the EMS Front End Processors (FEP) and related communications hardware.
  • Acquire a comprehensive understanding of processes within FirstEnergy's Transmission Operations and stay informed about industry developments.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Programming skills, including SQL and Perl scripting.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities, with interpersonal skills to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented with the capacity to interpret complex technical information accurately.
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and provide on-call support as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of utility operations, including transmission, distribution, and generation.
  • Experience with client/server environments.
  • Familiarity with real-time system databases.
  • Understanding of data communications and networking principles.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills for effective problem resolution.
