KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

As part of the world's largest humanitarian network, the American Red Cross operates on the front lines of the climate crisis daily.

The organization is seeking a Community Disaster Risk Reduction Coordinator to help spearhead an innovative new initiative. This role will involve building and managing a network of community partners and workforce to address the climate crisis effectively.

Through our Community Adaptation Program, we aim to establish and equip a resilient network of community-based partners and workforce prepared to enhance food security, emergency shelter, and access to health and mental health services during climate emergencies.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in social services, partner collaboration, and community outreach, with experience in grant administration, disaster risk reduction, and volunteer team development. PRIMARY DUTIES:
  • Assess community needs to identify and support vulnerable populations regarding resilience in health, food security, and housing.
  • Identify local partner organizations that provide services related to food insecurity, housing, and health with a focus on building disaster-related resilience.
  • Collaborate with American Red Cross divisional and regional staff to integrate partnerships into planning, readiness, response, and recovery activities.
  • Evaluate partnership opportunities, maintain positive relationships, and formalize agreements with community-based organizations and key stakeholders.
  • Support the implementation of Community Adaptation initiatives by convening partners and facilitating engagement.
  • Assist in the collection of necessary grant management and partner engagement data accurately and timely.
  • Foster diverse and inclusive volunteer teams that lead and engage in Mission Adaptation objectives.
  • Work with internal teams to communicate program objectives and identify areas for improvement within the existing volunteer base.
  • Prepare accurate records and reports on partner engagement, including regular updates on program milestones.
  • Collaborate with Communications to develop press releases, brochures, and other materials.
  • Support regional and stakeholder communities during disaster relief efforts.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Social Work, Public Health, Community Education, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, ideally in an outcomes-based social services environment or a combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in community mobilization and disaster recovery preferred, with familiarity in climate adaptation strategies and community organizing.
  • Skills and Abilities: In-depth knowledge of community disaster risk reduction, excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to develop project plans and budgets.
  • Location: Residence in or near the relevant area is required to build trust and social capital for successful community resilience networks.
  • Other: Responsible for ensuring compliance with American Red Cross finance policies related to the scope of work.
  • Travel: Travel is required, and a valid driver's license with a good driving record is necessary.
