Major League Baseball (MLB) is seeking a highly skilled Investigations Counsel to join our Department of Investigations. As a key member of our team, you will assist in conducting confidential and sensitive investigations related to players, umpires, and baseball personnel.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough investigations into allegations of domestic violence, sexual assault, gambling, performance-enhancing substances, and other violations of baseball rules and policies.
  • Conduct interviews throughout the United States and in the Dominican Republic, and occasionally in other countries.
  • Draft detailed investigative reports, interview summaries, and other documentation related to significant investigations.
  • Review and analyze English and Spanish language documents, text messages, emails, and legal filings.
  • Work with analysts to gather and analyze publicly available information, including government records, social media, and news reports.
  • Liaise with local, state, and federal law enforcement entities about ongoing investigations.
  • Assist with reporting hotline management, including maintaining vendor relationships and issue response.
  • Conduct legal research.
  • Assist Clubs with certain internal investigations.
  • Provide legal support to other MLB departments as needed.
Requirements
  • Fluency in Spanish (oral and written) is required.
  • J.D. and a minimum of 5 years of legal experience are required.
  • Significant experience in investigations is required; prosecutorial or similar background is preferred.
  • This position is based in New York City and requires in-office attendance at least four days per week.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are required; must be an excellent writer.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office is required; familiarity with Excel and PowerPoint is preferred.
  • Ability to manage deliverables with time-sensitive deadlines is required.
  • Intermittent domestic and international travel is required, at times on short notice.
