Emergency Medical Technician

POSITION SUMMARY
The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) role at King's Daughters involves the safe transportation of patients to and from various locations, including private residences, healthcare facilities, and hospitals.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responds promptly to emergency calls, delivering immediate care to critically ill or injured individuals and facilitating their transport to appropriate medical facilities.
KEY DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS
Essential responsibilities include:
1. Safely transporting patients to designated locations while adhering to dispatcher instructions.
2. Managing efficient routes and maintaining communication with dispatch teams, ensuring patient confidentiality.
3. Conducting daily inspections of vehicles and equipment to ensure readiness and cleanliness.
4. Restocking medical supplies and equipment as necessary.
5. Administering medical care and transporting patients to or between medical facilities.
6. Assisting in the safe removal of patients from emergency scenes and gathering vital information for medical personnel.
EDUCATIONAL AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Minimum qualifications include:
- High School diploma or GED
- Completion of an accredited EMT training program
- Active State of Kentucky EMT certification
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Valid Driver's License
- Completion of an annual emergency vehicle operations course
Preferred qualifications:
- State of Ohio EMT certification
- National Registry for EMT certification
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position involves frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, blood and bodily fluids, and potential infectious materials. Occasional exposure to hazardous chemicals and radiation may occur. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Job requirements include:
- Ability to remain stationary (standing or sitting) for extended periods.
- Frequent walking and mobility.
- Regular operation of computers and medical equipment.
- Proficient use of fine motor skills for handling instruments.
- Lifting and moving items weighing up to 10 pounds consistently, and up to 50 pounds frequently, with occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds.
- Effective communication with patients and team members, requiring clear verbal and auditory skills.
- Specific vision capabilities, including close, distance, color, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
