Position Overview

The University of Michigan-Flint is looking for a Research Assistant I on a temporary basis. This role is integral to the DEI Centers Project, which investigates the historical context, influence of student activism, administrative leadership, and financial decisions that contributed to the establishment and ongoing support of the Center for Global Engagement.

Key Objectives:

  • Conduct research and document the historical significance and impact of student activism in the creation of the Center for Global Engagement.
  • Examine how shifts in leadership and funding have influenced the Center's structure, capabilities, priorities, and programming over time.
  • Investigate the connection between students' sense of belonging and the Center for Global Engagement.

This position requires approximately 6 hours of work per week, with a schedule to be determined post-hire to accommodate any existing commitments.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conduct interviews and gather historical documents and materials.
  • Organize and prepare historical documents for preservation.
  • Design research instruments.
  • Collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Present and disseminate research findings effectively.

Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Prior research experience is essential.
  • Must be able to work on the UM-Flint Campus.
  • Availability for at least 6 hours per week.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous research experience is advantageous.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Familiarity with the mission and programming of the Center for Global Engagement.
  • Current undergraduate student in good academic standing at the University of Michigan-Flint.

Work Environment:

This position requires a fully onsite presence at a designated University of Michigan location.
