Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Inpatient Coder 3 to join our team at Yale New Haven Health. As a key member of our coding team, you will be responsible for accurately coding medical records to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and optimize reimbursement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coding and classification of inpatient medical records with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Collaboration with the Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) department to resolve coding questions and concerns.
  • Participation in audit reviews, mentoring, and training of other coders to promote departmental success.
  • Support of departmental projects and initiatives to improve coding efficiency and quality.
Requirements
  • High school diploma and two years of college or equivalent with additional training in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification required at time of hire.
  • Minimum five years of experience in inpatient medical coding at a large academic medical center.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology, as well as ICD-10 coding guidelines.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
