Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Inpatient Coder 3 to join our team at Yale New Haven Health. This role involves expert-level inpatient coding of medical records, utilizing clinical information for research, utilization, and reimbursement purposes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coding Expectations: Perform coding functions within departmental guidelines, adhering to productivity expectations, goals, and accurate use of coding statuses.
  • Quality: Maintain a minimum quality score of 95% in all aspects of coding, including diagnosis code, procedure code, discharge disposition, and POA status selection.
  • Professional Development/Education: Support the educational needs of the department, remain current with coding guidelines, ICD-10 updates, and regulatory changes.
Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma and two years of college or equivalent with additional training in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
  • Experience: Minimum five years' experience in Inpatient Medical Coding at a large academic medical center.
  • Licensure: CCS certification required.
  • Special Skills: Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology, understanding of ICD-10, good oral and written communication skills, and ability to exercise good judgment and independent logic.
