Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Surgical Technologist to join our team at the University of Virginia. As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures, maintaining a sterile environment, and providing exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Gather and prepare surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment for procedures
  • Maintain a sterile field and anticipate the needs of the surgical team
  • Ensure adherence to aseptic technique and sterile conscience
  • Assist with surgical procedures, including general to moderately complex cases
  • Provide safe patient care and demonstrate knowledge of environmental safety practices
  • Act as a preceptor for new staff in the scrub role and assume beginning leadership roles under guidance
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Currently enrolled or graduated from a surgical technologist training program accredited by CAHEEP/AHEBS or NCCT
  • No experience required, but one year of experience working as a surgical technologist is preferred
  • BLS certification required
  • Certified to practice as a Surgical Technologist by NBSTSA or NCCT required at time of start date
  • Current Registration with Virginia Board of Medicine required at time of hire
Physical Demands

The job requires standing for prolonged periods, repetitive motion, and lifting heavy instrument sets. The successful candidate must be proficient in communicative, auditory, and visual skills, with attention to detail and ability to write legibly.
