Child Care Program Director

The School Age Child Care Head Teacher is responsible for providing direct supervision and leadership to a group of children and teachers in a school age child care program. The ideal candidate will have experience in early childhood education and be able to plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities.
Key Responsibilities- Model and teach the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility with members, colleagues, staff, guests, volunteers, and vendors.
- Coordinate the school age child care programs for assigned location(s) and ensure high quality programs and established new program activities.
- Monitor and evaluate staff performance for on-site location and report staff evaluations to Child Care Director regularly.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with parents and school staff and respond to all concerns in a timely manner.
- Provide for upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment and ensure the physical environment supports healthy living.
- Follow and enforce all Child Care procedures and guidelines, including those pertaining to health and safety, supervision of children, child care discipline policy, drop-off/pick-up, attendance, forms, reports, supplies, and staff expectations.
- Maintain physical presence, remain alert at all times while on duty, and maintain constant visual attention to program participants.
- Know, follow, and enforce all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures and those for the prevention of child abuse.
- Must be at least 20 years old and meet the requirements for Head Teacher for school age programs as defined by the CT Office of Early Childhood.
- Ability to plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities.
- Excellent customer service, decision-making, problem-solving, team-oriented, and critical thinking skills.
- Effective communication skills necessary to inform, counsel, motivate, and support participants and staff.
- Must be observant, safety-conscious, and able to react calmly and quickly in an emergency.
- Documentation of physical examination and TB Tine Test required at hire and to be repeated every two (2) years.
- Must complete OEC background check and fingerprinting within thirty (30) days of employment.
- CT Child Care CPR/First Aid certification within six (6) months of employment.
- Administration of Medications certification preferred.
- Continued professional development per OEC licensing requirements.
