Position Overview:

The Body Shop Equipment Specialist is responsible for ensuring that the tooling and equipment requirements stemming from new setups, change management, process necessities, continuous improvement activities, and other inputs are effectively implemented while adhering to safety, quality, timing, and cost objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the execution of equipment and tooling initiatives for the Body Shop, following the established buy-off protocol. Organize and engage in equipment buy-off sessions, coordinating discussions with necessary stakeholders. Review punch lists, conduct buy-offs, and manage procedures from initial stages to completion.
  • Maintain extensive knowledge and oversight of all assigned equipment, liaising with vendors throughout the launch phase to ensure compliance with buy-off procedures and readiness for launch.
  • Oversee the installation of equipment, addressing concerns through root-cause analysis, and developing or assisting with both short-term and long-term countermeasures, including sketches and design proposals for new tooling or modifications.
  • Assist in organizing tools, equipment, and fixtures in collaboration with both external and internal service providers, such as maintenance teams, process engineers, and tool shops.
  • Coordinate and perform buy-offs at vendor locations.
  • Provide timelines, budgets, and status updates regarding equipment implementation.
  • Prepare for and participate in product review trials as needed. Support production teams on the shop floor to verify equipment readiness and monitor any issues during initial production phases.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive database and overview of tooling and equipment.
  • Compile information on equipment and tooling status for presentation in meetings.
  • Create and update performance scorecards and status reports.
  • Organize internal and external meetings to clarify problem definitions and communicate findings.
  • Conduct machine and process capability assessments and tests.
  • Adhere to and ensure compliance with all relevant safety and security regulations.
  • Document lessons learned throughout the process.
  • Act as a technical trainer for targeted audiences.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience in an engineering-focused environment within a manufacturing context, emphasizing equipment and tooling projects, project management, and strong practical skills.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience in an automotive body shop setting.
