Job Title: Licensed Practical Nurse

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team at the Virginia Department of Corrections. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the overall success of our healthcare team.

Job Summary:

The Licensed Practical Nurse will be responsible for providing evidence-based nursing care to patients, administering medications, and providing first aid and basic life support as needed. You will work closely with security and treatment staff to maintain open lines of communication and provide input and feedback to assist in organizing treatment plans.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide evidence-based nursing care to patients
  • Administer medications and provide first aid and basic life support as needed
  • Maintain open lines of communication with security and treatment staff
  • Provide input and feedback to assist in organizing treatment plans
  • Record all pertinent information into the medical record
  • Interact with other departments as needed
Requirements:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Valid unrestricted Virginia Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) license issued by the board of nursing or a multi-state compact license
  • Working knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of practical or general nursing care
  • Demonstrated ability to screen complaints of physical ailments and refer necessary cases to other medical professionals
  • Ability to maintain appropriate documentation, provide first aid, and carry out providers' orders in applying treatments
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to administer practical nursing care
  • Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers with current certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
Additional Considerations:
  • Experience working in a corrections or law enforcement environment
  • Experience or related training in delivery of general nursing and emergency medical care
