Job Title: Licensed Practical Nurse

We are seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team at the Virginia Department of Human Resource Management. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, you will provide high-quality patient care and work collaboratively with our healthcare team to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients.

Job Summary:

The Licensed Practical Nurse will provide evidence-based nursing care to patients, utilizing the nursing process and principles of general nursing care. This includes screening for sick call, administering medications, and providing first aid and basic life support as needed. The successful candidate will also maintain open lines of communication with security and treatment staff, and provide input and feedback to assist in organizing a treatment plan.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide evidence-based nursing care to patients
  • Screen for sick call and administer medications as needed
  • Provide first aid and basic life support to patients and employees
  • Maintain open lines of communication with security and treatment staff
  • Provide input and feedback to assist in organizing a treatment plan
  • Record all pertinent information into the medical record
  • Interact with other departments as needed
Requirements:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Valid unrestricted Virginia Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) license issued by the board of nursing or a multi-state compact license
  • Working knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of practical or general nursing care
  • Demonstrated ability to screen complaints of physical ailments and refer necessary cases to other medical professionals
  • Ability to maintain appropriate documentation, provide first aid, and carry out providers' orders in applying treatments
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to administer practical nursing care
  • Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers with current certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a corrections or law enforcement environment
  • Experience or related training in delivery of general nursing and emergency medical care
