Job Title: Licensed Practical Nurse

We are seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team at the Virginia Department of Corrections. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, you will provide evidence-based nursing care to patients and employees in a correctional setting.

Job Duties:
  • Provide nursing care to patients and employees in a correctional setting
  • Screen for sick call and administer medications as needed
  • Provide first aid and basic life support to patients and employees
  • Maintain open lines of communication with security and treatment staff
  • Record all pertinent information into the medical record
  • Interact with other departments as needed
Requirements:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Valid unrestricted Virginia Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) license
  • Working knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of practical or general nursing care
  • Demonstrated ability to screen complaints of physical ailments and refer necessary cases to other medical professionals
  • Ability to maintain appropriate documentation, provide first aid, and carry out providers' orders in applying treatments
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to administer practical nursing care
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a corrections or law enforcement environment
  • Experience or related training in delivery of general nursing and emergency medical care

Please note that this is a wage position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period of May 1 - April 30. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12-month period. This wage position offers no state benefits.
