Job Summary

Island Health is seeking an Admitting Specialist to join the Patient Registration team. In this role, you will be responsible for collecting and processing information required for patient registration, while providing excellent customer service.



Key Responsibilities

  • Registration and Data Entry: Obtain specific information from patients, process diagnostic orders, and verify insurance eligibility using electronic resources.
  • Communication and Customer Service: Answer switchboard calls, greet patients and visitors, and provide general information and direction assistance.
  • Clerical Support: Assist with mail processing, ordering supplies, receiving payments, and maintaining the cash drawer.
  • Support for Other Departments: Provide clerical support for other hospital departments, including reference lab processing, claims processing, sorting, scanning, and filing.


Requirements and Qualifications

  • Education and Experience: HS Diploma or GED, and a minimum of six months experience as an office receptionist or in a medical setting.
  • Skills and Abilities: Ability to interact positively with patients and visitors, meet regular attendance standards, and accurately type 40 wpm.
  • Physical Demands: Regularly required to sit, talk, and have hearing sufficient to understand conversations. Occasionally required to stand, walk, climb, or balance, and lift up to 25 pounds.


Work Environment

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is exposed to inside environmental conditions, protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The employee may be exposed to dust, pollens, pollutants, fumes, and communicable diseases as related to a health care environment.
