General Purpose
This role involves providing specialized technical knowledge and support across various activities related to substation equipment, protection and control systems, or communication technologies. You will serve as a subject matter expert, assisting personnel in addressing and resolving intricate challenges. This position also includes facilitating internal training for technicians and engineers, as well as researching and implementing innovative programs and processes to adapt to evolving internal and external demands.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and direct the operations of the technical support team, leading projects and initiatives.
  • Deliver expert technical guidance on complex substation, distribution, and transmission operations.
  • Conduct in-depth engineering research and technical analyses in specialized areas.
  • Revise and enhance policies and practices to boost the operational efficiency of PacifiCorp's systems.
  • Lead the development and execution of processes to improve operational performance.
  • Communicate updates on programs and policies to relevant stakeholders, including operations staff and management.
  • Present findings and lead discussions with senior management and technical teams regarding substation support issues.
  • Review policies and procedures to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise technical staff and manage their schedules as necessary.
  • Analyze schematics and prepare documentation for the installation of substation equipment.
  • Collaborate with engineers and operations teams to address system and design challenges.
  • Provide training for various departments, including dispatch and technician trainees.
  • Offer technical oversight to the support staff within the T&D system operations.
  • Act as the company expert in your field, providing authoritative advice to senior management.
  • Identify effective methods and techniques to achieve desired outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • At least seven years of experience in substation commissioning, design, or maintenance.
  • A minimum of three years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Strong knowledge of power systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving and assessment skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Capability to collaborate with diverse teams and individuals.
  • Expertise in current technologies and tools relevant to the field.
  • Proficiency in using personal computers and automated systems.
  • Understanding of applicable company policies and procedures.
  • Project management skills, including the ability to meet deadlines and manage budgets.
  • Ability to perform under pressure while maintaining composure.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to simplify technical information.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
  • Availability to provide after-hours support for field operations.

Preferences

  • Experience in supervising technical teams.
  • Advanced technical degree or Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
