Substation Journeyman Technician

Position Overview: We are seeking skilled individuals to fill the role of Substation Journeyman Technician. This position involves the installation, maintenance, testing, adjustment, troubleshooting, and repair of substation equipment. The equipment includes transformers, regulators, load tap changers, circuit breakers, circuit switchers, motor-operated and manual switches, bus work, wiring, battery banks, chargers, and substation structures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and manage substation equipment, ensuring proper switching and grounding procedures are followed.
  • Conduct testing on various substation apparatus, including power factor tests, transformer turns ratio, megger tests, ductor tests, battery load testing, oil sampling, and other analytical assessments as required.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to safety protocols and encouraging safe work practices among team members.
  • Be prepared to work in confined spaces and at heights, utilizing ladders, scaffolds, and boom trucks as necessary.
  • Work both independently and collaboratively, occasionally putting in extended hours during emergency situations, while being responsible for tools, testing equipment, and vehicles.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be a certified substation journeyman or currently enrolled in a journeyman training program in good standing.
  • Completion of the substation journeyman training program is required.
  • A Class A CDL is mandatory; or the ability to obtain one within six months of hire.
