Paramount Events is seeking a Greenhouse Operations Specialist

Position Overview: The Greenhouse Operations Specialist will collaborate closely with the Chief Culinary Officer to manage the daily functions of our greenhouse and adjacent gardens, overseeing all related tasks. The ideal candidate should possess a genuine passion for horticulture, experience in culinary environments, and exceptional communication and customer service abilities, along with the initiative to work autonomously.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver daily maintenance for greenhouse flora, including planting, transplanting, pruning, watering, and fertilizing, while conducting facility inspections to ensure optimal conditions and addressing any pest or disease issues that may arise.
  • Oversee the upkeep of the greenhouse structure, including the maintenance of wooden boxes through oiling and replacing deteriorating materials, as well as managing the surrounding area.
  • Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of watering systems, greenhouse facilities, and all supplies.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive watering and fertilizing schedule, coordinating efforts for weekends and holidays.
  • Maintain a tidy greenhouse environment and ensure plants are properly labeled for aesthetic and educational purposes, including conducting tours for visitors.
  • Educate colleagues on greenhouse operations, gardening techniques, and how to conduct tours for guests.
  • Work in conjunction with the culinary team to harvest daily for catering events and restaurant services, as well as organizing and rotating greenhouse products in storage.
  • Collaborate with the purchasing manager to order and organize greenhouse supplies and materials, manage deliveries, and maintain detailed records, including soil sampling for testing.
  • Monitor for pests, diseases, and any irregularities in plant growth, implementing corrective strategies and maintaining thorough records.
  • Conduct soil tests to identify any issues affecting plant health.
  • In partnership with the Chief Culinary Officer, create and execute a year-round planting schedule, including seed saving and propagation, while managing the yearly sowing timeline.
  • Plan and execute sustainable practices in heating, electricity, and water usage.
  • Investigate methods to enhance growth processes and harvest yields, providing recommendations on fertilizers and potting mediums.
  • Comfortable working in a warm and humid greenhouse environment year-round.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Possess strong communication, training, management, and supervisory skills, along with knowledge of safety and environmental regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years of experience in a nursery, farm, or greenhouse setting. Culinary experience is advantageous.

Educational Background:

  • Associate degree in greenhouse management, or a bachelor's degree in horticulture, plant science, or a related field.
