Position Responsibilities:

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a part-time (20 hrs/wk) Public Relations and Engagement Coordinator who will be tasked with:

  • Updating and managing the organization's website in collaboration with the digital communications team;
  • Overseeing the organization's social media channels and email communications;
  • Promoting organizational events and initiatives;
  • Recording and editing video content for various programs and events;
  • Collaborating with leadership to develop outreach strategies and communication plans;
  • Designing and producing promotional materials for events and initiatives;
  • Providing logistical support during in-person and virtual gatherings;
  • Assisting with additional organizational tasks as required.

This position requires a commitment to being present for in-person events to ensure effective documentation and promotion.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • A minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in digital communications and public relations;
  • Proficiency in video production and editing;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects effectively;
  • Flexibility and strong organizational skills to accommodate varying schedules;
  • Familiarity with relevant software, including web management tools and digital editing applications;
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and proactive.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 or more years of experience in communications, public relations, or event management;
  • Knowledge of higher education environments;
  • Interest in cultural studies or community engagement;
  • Previous experience in event coordination.
