The Strategic Investments (SI) team operates within this framework, collaborating with experts and leaders to effectively allocate resources through grants and support services. Our work exemplifies how community power and strategic funding can create lasting impact.

ROLE OVERVIEW

We are seeking a strategic and solutions-focused leader who is passionate about community investment and operational excellence to take on the role of Program Manager, Strategic Investments.

In this position, you will develop investment strategies and facilitate collaborative initiatives aimed at addressing Los Angeles' most pressing challenges while promoting equity. You will manage a significant portion of United Way's investment efforts, overseeing project-level funding that totals over $20 million annually.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strategic Investments
  • Collaborate with the Community Impact team and external partners to design impactful funding opportunities aligned with long-term objectives.
  • Oversee the investment design process to create streamlined funding initiatives for UWGLA and its resource tables.
  • Assist the Director of Strategic Investments in evolving grantmaking strategies that align with organizational goals.
  • Research and identify potential investment opportunities for strategic funding development.
  • Coordinate logistics for special meetings and events related to investment initiatives.
  • Participate in special fund distribution efforts as necessary.
  • Investment Operations
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives to implement innovative operational practices for effective grant management.
  • Support strategic discussions with leadership to enhance investment strategies.
  • Integrate racial equity principles into investment processes.
  • Supervise the Contracts Coordinator in managing application and review processes.
  • Ensure effective execution of contracts and payments across departments.
  • Relationship Management
  • Build and maintain relationships with multi-sector partners to enhance funding opportunities.
  • Provide support and guidance to partners and applicants, facilitating constructive conversations.
  • Represent UWGLA in philanthropic and community forums.
  • Manage collaborative funding initiatives to deepen engagement among funding members.
  • Resource Development
  • Support efforts to secure resources for community impact through data-driven insights.
  • Track performance indicators to assess the effectiveness of ongoing projects.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Engagement teams to communicate the value of our mission.
  • Team Development
  • Mentor and coach team members to enhance their skills and professional growth.
  • Provide constructive feedback to elevate team performance and accountability.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

SUCCESS METRICS

  • Successfully lead the design and implementation of funding opportunities, investing at least $15 million into impactful projects.
  • Plan and execute significant collaborative investments aligned with strategic goals.
  • Enhance communication plans for collaborative funding initiatives, resulting in meaningful engagement.
  • Oversee operational improvements in contract management for active commitments.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant fields or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years in philanthropy or program management.
  • Experience with boards or funding collaboratives preferred.
  • At least 3 years of supervisory experience is desirable.
