Description

The primary objective of this role is to ensure the security, safety, and well-being of inmates, as well as the integrity of the detention facility and its equipment. This position is an entry-level opportunity where individuals will operate under direct supervision and participate in mandatory training programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain the safety and security of inmates; oversee inmate activities to prevent harm to themselves or others; respond to emergency alarms; conduct searches of inmates and cells to eliminate contraband and weapons; provide inmates with information regarding their legal situations and personal interactions.
  • Monitor and account for inmates; manage the intake and booking process upon arrival; ensure all inmates are secured in their designated areas; perform regular walkthroughs and headcounts; oversee control towers and surveillance systems.
  • Assist inmates with daily living requirements; distribute clothing; manage meal and commissary services; supervise recreational and religious activities; may assist in cafeteria and laundry operations.
  • Transport inmates to various locations; escort inmates within the facility or to external locations while maintaining control at all times.
  • Ensure the safety of facility staff and visitors; monitor visitor access; conduct searches for contraband; escort visitors as necessary.
  • Handle various documentation related to departmental operations within specified timeframes; review and process necessary paperwork; prepare reports and maintain accurate records.
  • Utilize computer systems for data entry, retrieval, and modification; operate general office equipment as required.
  • Use various equipment and safety gear, including firearms, Tasers, handcuffs, and radios, to fulfill job responsibilities.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, inmates, law enforcement personnel, and other staff to coordinate activities and resolve issues.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

A High School diploma or equivalent is required, along with one (1) year of relevant experience or a combination of education and experience.

Licenses or Certifications:

Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Understanding of local government operations and law enforcement policies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and manage confidential information.
  • Capacity to adapt to flexible working hours and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
Physical Demands

This role requires medium physical exertion, including the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and to remain active for extended periods.

Work Environment

Work may be conducted indoors and outdoors under varying weather conditions, with potential exposure to hazardous materials and stressful situations. The noise level may vary from moderate to loud.
