POSITION SUMMARY

Hennepin Healthcare is seeking a dedicated Interventional Radiology Technologist to join our specialized Interventional Radiology team. This full-time role involves working weekdays and being on-call as necessary. Under the guidance of the area supervisor, you will provide patient care and execute technical functions to ensure accurate radiologic diagnosis and treatment.

COMPENSATION

A sign-on bonus of $10,000 is available for qualified external candidates.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct diagnostic radiographic and angiographic imaging while assisting with interventional procedures under the direct supervision of an interventional practitioner.
  • Adhere to the ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principle by adjusting radiation doses based on established protocols tailored to individual patient needs.
  • Verify IR exam orders and patient identification in line with hospital policies to guarantee the correct procedures are performed on the right patients.
  • Evaluate patient risk through interviews and chart reviews, notifying nurses or physicians of any potential contraindications.
  • Ensure patients are adequately prepared and that necessary pre-medication protocols are followed.
  • Exhibit a comprehensive understanding of the procurement, storage, utilization, documentation, and billing requirements for catheters, stents, and other supplies used in Interventional Radiology.
  • Coordinate post-procedure care, including scheduling follow-up appointments as directed by the interventional provider.
  • Educate patients and their families, ensuring they understand the procedures and care involved.
  • Attend to the physical and psychological needs of patients during IR exams, including monitoring oxygen saturation levels as required.
  • Perform venipuncture for contrast administration and evaluate IV access patency, administering saline flushes as per protocol.
  • Conduct Point-of-Care lab tests as necessary.
  • Prepare and administer oral and/or IV contrast according to department protocols as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Ensure compliance with safety procedures for personnel involved in patient care.
  • Document clinical and regulatory information in the patient's electronic chart, including IV documentation and contrast administration records.
  • Initiate responses to any complications or emergencies that may arise during exams, seeking assistance as needed.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and disease processes, evaluating images and recognizing normal versus abnormal anatomy.
  • Manage medications and equipment in accordance with hospital policies.
  • Utilize the image management system to acquire, format, manipulate, and archive images to the PACS system.
  • Assist patients in completing informed consent forms after discussions with the provider.
  • Implement manual operations during computer system or equipment failures.
  • Train new staff and students in IR procedures and techniques.
  • Conduct competency evaluations for new IR personnel.
  • Support the education and training of medical staff, including Radiology Residents and Fellows.
  • Maintain equipment and workspaces in optimal condition, troubleshooting any issues affecting image quality.
  • Foster a positive work environment and promote teamwork, contributing suggestions for improvements.
  • Assist in organizing workflow utilizing available staff and resources.
  • Participate in exams designated for approved IRB research.
  • Engage in departmental continuing education and in-service training.
  • Provide constructive feedback for staff performance evaluations.
  • Perform various clerical duties and undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.
