Structural Steel Fitter

Position: Structural Fitter
Compensation: $28 - $35 per hour
Shifts Available: 1st and 2nd

Key Responsibilities:
- Execute the layout and fitting of structural steel elements and bridge components with precision and efficiency.
- Interpret complex blueprints, schematics, and technical specifications related to structural steel and bridge fabrication.
- Identify various steel shapes and accurately layout and fit beams, columns, and other components, including marking weld sizes and piece identifiers.
- Utilize a range of tools and equipment, including welding machines, grinders, cutting torches, and measuring instruments, to complete fitting tasks.
- Conduct thorough quality inspections on finished work to ensure compliance with project specifications and standards.
- Collaborate effectively with team members, including welders, fabricators, and project managers, to achieve project goals and timelines.
- Maintain a safe and organized workspace, adhering to all safety regulations and protocols.
- Assist in troubleshooting and resolving issues during the fabrication and installation phases.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience as a Journeyman Fitter/Fabricator, particularly in structural steel and bridge projects.
- Expertise in layout and fitting techniques, with the ability to accurately interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Strong knowledge of structural welding processes and techniques.
- Capability to perform structural welding as required.
- Familiarity with industry standards and codes.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship.
- Physical endurance and the ability to work in diverse environmental conditions.
- Certifications in AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, and/or AWS D1.8 are advantageous.
Work Environment:
- The facility spans 180,000 square feet and is recognized as one of the largest steel fabrication centers in the Pacific Northwest.
- The company holds AISC certification for high-rise buildings, bridges, marine, and other structural steel projects.
