Compensation:
The targeted hourly pay range for this position is between $25.00 and $28.50.

Position Summary:

The role of the Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator involves the operation and maintenance of the treatment facility to ensure adherence to environmental standards and permit stipulations. This position requires the monitoring of treatment processes, conducting necessary tests, making adjustments to processes, and performing preventive maintenance on equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate and oversee the wastewater treatment plant equipment and processes, including pumps, valves, tanks, clarifiers, and filtration systems.
  • Conduct routine laboratory analyses, such as pH, hardness, alkalinity, boron, and ammonia, to assess treatment performance.
  • Adjust treatment processes by modifying flow rates, chemical feed rates, or implementing other changes to enhance treatment efficiency.
  • Maintain detailed logs and records of plant operations, test outcomes, and maintenance activities.
  • Perform regular preventive maintenance tasks, including equipment lubrication, filter changes, and system inspections.
  • Respond to alarms and troubleshoot equipment issues, coordinating repairs with maintenance personnel as needed.
  • Communicate effectively regarding equipment malfunctions, process inefficiencies, and variances in key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental regulations, permit requirements, and safety protocols.
  • Engage in training programs to uphold OSHA compliance and deepen knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and regulations.
  • Assist in the creation, implementation, and validation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the treatment facility.
Qualifications:

Education and Experience:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Completion of a water/wastewater treatment operator certification program or relevant technical training is preferred. Previous experience in treatment plant operations or a related field is highly desirable.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Familiarity with water treatment processes, equipment, and regulations is essential. Candidates should possess the ability to operate and maintain treatment plant equipment, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and proficiency in conducting basic laboratory tests and interpreting results. Attention to detail and effective record-keeping are crucial, along with knowledge of safety protocols and procedures. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary for collaboration with various stakeholders. The ability to work independently and as part of a team is required, along with the physical capability to perform manual labor, including lifting, climbing, and working in confined spaces.
