Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified English Language Arts and Reading Teacher to join our team at Academy of Visual and Performing Arts. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that our students meet high standards of academic excellence in English Language Arts and Reading.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement written lesson plans that fulfill the curriculum and program requirements, including differentiation, scaffolds, and formative and summative assessments.
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
  • Provide instruction and appropriate learning experiences to students designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, learning activities, instructional materials, equipment, and technologies to build students' content knowledge and skills and to meet the diverse needs of assigned students.
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for the subject and level assigned (or accepted in an approved Alternative Certification Program) and have passed the required prerequisite examinations.
  • English as a Second Language certification preferred.
  • Ability to lead, influence, and hold others accountable to high standards of academic and artistic excellence.
  • Strong learning orientation and desire to work in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Successful criminal background check required.
