The City of Houston is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deputy Director to join our team at the Houston Health Department. As a key member of our leadership team, you will play a critical role in shaping the department's vision and strategy to promote and protect the health and well-being of our community.
Key Responsibilities- Provide strategic leadership and direction to department-wide functions and units, including Quality and Performance Management, Nursing Services, and Public Health Preparedness.
- Develop and implement effective public health strategies and programs to address the community's health needs.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to build strategic relationships and achieve common goals.
- Supervise and manage personnel within assigned units, oversee hiring, disciplinary actions, training, and development.
- Manage budgets, seek external resources, and monitor expenditures to ensure compliance with policy and administrative processes.
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a closely related field.
- At least 10 years of professional experience in business administration, management, or a closely related field, with at least 4 years in a managerial capacity.
- Master's degree may be substituted for 2 years of experience.
- Master's degree in Public Health, Administration, Education, or a related field.
- At least 15 years of experience.
- Worked for a government entity.
- Experience managing and/or operating in natural disaster, pandemic, or related emergency conditions.
