The Programming team at Crime Stoppers of Houston is the avenue in which Crime Stoppers directly connects with our target populations to raise awareness about critical public safety topics via in-person presentations, trainings, community events, written material, and virtual learning opportunities. 2023 was a year of exponential growth for our programming department and we are thrilled to add to our team. We are looking for a passionate social science, liberal arts, communications, or education major who is eager to aid in the rapid growth of our programs. The perfect candidate would be flexible and good at problem-solving with a passion for impacting their community through education. While this is a Houston-based organization, we do provide programming both statewide and nationally, so the ability to identify crime trends and personal/public safety needs locally and nationally is of great value.
What you will be doing
Your primary objective will be to support the Safe Community and Safe School Program leaders in the overall development, growth, and execution of the program. This could include, but is not limited to the following:
- Facilitate program presentations for students, staff, parents, community members, and law enforcement personnel.
- Cultivate and maintain partnerships with school districts, after school programs.
- Maintain accurate records of the number of presentations facilitated and the number of attendees.
- Research and maintain updated content on current public and school safety trends.
- Execute school and community-based outreach projects.
- Fulfill other duties as assigned by program leaders, CEO, or Deputy Director.
What we will expect from you:
- Comfort with public speaking to all demographics.
- Ability to work on large projects independently as well as collaboratively with the department heads and supporting staff.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to identify pressing school and public safety trends and relay them appropriately while keeping in mind audience demographics.
- Outstanding research skills.
- Empathy for victims of violent crimes.
- Extraordinary attention to detail.
- Night and weekend availability on occasion.
- Flexibility and the ability to prioritize projects as assigned.
What you will gain from us:
- A robust understanding of community/school safety needs, and crime trends.
- Opportunity to aid in the growth and development of Texas's leading public safety programs.
- A small, but mighty team of passionate individuals who care about you and your future.
- Growth opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Comfort with technology such as Zoom, Excel, PowerPoint
- Experience with public speaking
- Bilingual
