Job Summary:

The Infection Preventionist will play a critical role in ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and quality care at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and implement infection surveillance activities across all departments and services that provide direct patient care.
  • Collaborate with the Employee Health Nurse to monitor infections among hospital personnel.
  • Identify and control outbreaks of nosocomial infections among patients and hospital personnel.
  • Work with electronic surveillance systems to collect data.
  • Assess and evaluate infection data to distinguish between nosocomial and community-acquired infections.
  • Submit surveillance data to complete the monthly Healthcare Associated Infection Report.
  • Identify potential sources of nosocomial infection and implement actions to eliminate the source.
  • Act as a consultant to nursing units and other departments on infection control and prevention measures.
  • Communicate and collaborate with Laboratory and State Health Department as needed.
Requirements:
  • Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse, issued by PA State Board of Nursing.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher level nursing degree.
  • Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) certification required within 30 months of hire.
  • Two (2) years of staff nursing experience.
  • Health care provider in good standing with Medicare, Medicaid and other federal and state health insurance programs.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • One (1) year of experience working in epidemiology.
