Agricultural Specialist

Job Summary

The Agricultural Specialist will be responsible for applying herbicides and pesticides to labeled crops, operating applicator equipment, and performing maintenance on that equipment. This position requires a Class A CDL and a qualified applicator certificate (QAC) is preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mix pesticides, fertilizers, and chemicals for application.
  • Maintain accurate log books on applied acres.
  • Perform maintenance and calibration on application equipment.
  • Wear proper protection equipment.
  • Participate in continuing education for maintaining pesticide applicator license.
  • Attend applicator equipment workshops.
  • Perform maintenance on other equipment and fixed facilities.
  • Work nights, overtime, and some weekend hours during busy season.
  • Other work-related duties as assigned by leader.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required.
  • Experience in operating large equipment required.
  • Must be at least 18 years old to operate Helena equipment and/or drive a company vehicle.
  • A Class A CDL is required.
  • Must pass a drug test and background check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Mechanically inclined.
  • Qualified Applicator Certificate (QAC).
  • Communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Agricultural background.
  • Basic knowledge of ag pesticides.
  • Excellent driving record.
  • Ability to read field maps and use tractor-mounted field computers.
  • Professional competence to safety.
  • Ability to pass a CDL physical examination.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision.

Work Environment and Physical Aspects

The work environment for this position is a typical warehouse and distribution environment with moderate to loud noise levels. The employee will regularly work near moving equipment/mechanical parts and could be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, chemical and biological hazards, and a risk of electrical shock. This position requires the use of hands for many different tasks and to talk, hear, walk, stand, and sit. The employee will regularly be required to lift or move up to 100 pounds.
