Job Title: Civil Designer/Senior Civil Designer

We are seeking a highly skilled Civil Designer/Senior Civil Designer to join our Private Land Development Group in Ellicott City, MD.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Direct and independently complete assigned engineering designs using professional judgment.
  • Assist the Project Manager in assigning tasks and schedules to Project Engineers and project team members.
  • Check the accuracy of assigned tasks completed by other engineering and technical staff.
  • Make major design decisions that meet the needs of external customers while coordinating the impact of such decisions on related project efforts.
  • Identify technical, schedule, or financial issues and seek resolution from the Project Manager and/or the client.
  • Assist the client in bidding or contractor selection if authorized by the Project Manager.
  • Monitor construction and supervise field personnel assigned to a task, data collection, or a specific project.
  • Respond to contractor questions and issues, and prepare and issue project addendum as needed.
  • Recommend and prepare change orders.
  • Participate in the creation of engineering services proposals, including the calculation/estimation of time schedules and costs of the proposed work.
  • Communicate on technical matters with the client.
Requirements:
  • At least five years of design/engineering experience in civil engineering is required.
  • Experience with Howard County, MD projects is preferred.
  • Intermediate to advanced ability to use AutoCAD Civil 3D software and other engineering automation tools.
  • Strong technical verbal and technical writing skills, and ability to read technical literature and engineering plans.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and ability to apply professional knowledge to the solution of both routine and non-routine tasks and engineering activities.
  • Ability to develop financial project management skills through assigned project work and assigned project management assignments.
  • Maturity, professionalism, and willingness to solve internal and external client problems.
  • Ability to demonstrate two-way communication to effectively work with internal staff and external clients.
