Position Summary:

We are seeking experienced mid-career Archaeologists to take on the role of Field Supervisor within our Cultural Resources team. This position is crucial to our Southern California Cultural Resource Group, where you will oversee field archaeologists during various archaeological projects.

Your responsibilities will encompass the complete range of Cultural Resource Management (CRM) tasks, including project design, coordination, execution of fieldwork for diverse clients, report preparation, and limited team management duties.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage cultural resource field projects of varying sizes and complexities, ensuring compliance with Stantec's technical standards.
  • Utilize independent judgment to coordinate complex tasks effectively.
  • Direct field operations and teams, ensuring timely and budget-compliant project completion.
  • Gather comprehensive field data, draft technical reports, and prepare documentation.
  • Ensure client adherence to state and federal regulations.
  • Actively participate in Health, Safety, and Environment (HSSE) policies and practices.
  • Provide supervision, training, and mentorship to junior staff, promoting their technical and professional development.
  • Exhibit leadership in enhancing technical performance and devise solutions for project challenges.

Qualifications:

Your Skills and Experience:

  • Extensive experience in archaeological fieldwork with a deep understanding of California's prehistory and history.
  • Proven ability to coordinate and lead field teams, ensuring effective communication and workflow.
  • Experience in technical writing and problem-solving, along with strong communication skills.
  • Knowledge of environmental policies and regulations (e.g., NEPA, NHPA, CEQA).
  • Self-awareness regarding technical and professional abilities, knowing when to seek expert assistance.
  • Ability to follow both written and verbal directions for project delivery.
  • Proactive in maintaining a safe work environment and effectively communicating safety protocols to field staff.
  • Familiarity with digital field data collection tools such as GPS and ESRI Collector.
  • Commitment to technical excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • BA degree (or higher) in Anthropology.
  • 4 to 8 years of relevant experience in cultural resource management, preferably with California archaeological experience.
  • Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) credential is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Willingness to travel for fieldwork, up to 75% of the time.
  • Ability to work in typical field conditions, including varying weather and lifting up to 50 lbs.
