Job Title: Dean of Instruction

Join the Field Institute team as a Dean of Instruction, a key leadership role that drives academic excellence and instructional innovation. As a member of our leadership team, you will play a critical role in shaping the educational experience for our students.

Job Summary

The Dean of Instruction will provide strategic leadership and coordination of instructional programs, ensuring that our academic programs meet the diverse needs of our students. This role requires a strong instructional leader with a deep understanding of curriculum development, program design, and data-driven instruction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Curriculum and Instruction Leadership:
    • Develop, implement, and evaluate school curriculum to ensure alignment with state standards and student needs.
    • Collaborate with teaching staff to improve instructional methods and ensure academic excellence.
    • Lead data-driven instructional planning, using assessments and student progress data to inform decisions.
  • Teacher Coaching and Development:
    • Conduct classroom observations and provide constructive feedback to teachers.
    • Design and lead professional development opportunities to support teacher growth and mastery of curriculum.
    • Serve as a mentor and coach to teachers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Student Assessment and Monitoring:
    • Coordinate student assessments, ensuring timely collection and analysis of data to monitor student progress.
    • Work with teachers to identify at-risk students, developing intervention plans and making referrals to appropriate resources.
    • Support the implementation of the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and track student outcomes.
  • Program Evaluation and Improvement:
    • Evaluate instructional programs for effectiveness and make recommendations for curriculum adjustments.
    • Assist staff in using technology tools and online resources to enhance instruction and curriculum delivery.
    • Collaborate with the administrative team to align school-wide goals with instructional practices and program outcomes.
  • Professional Development:
    • Provide leadership in the development and implementation of professional growth plans for teachers.
    • Facilitate workshops, training sessions, and in-service days that focus on instructional innovation and best practices.
    • Encourage teachers to share successful teaching methods and practices with peers.
  • Staff Supervision and Management:
    • Support the hiring, training, and evaluation of instructional staff.
    • Foster a positive school culture that encourages collaboration, professional growth, and commitment to student success.
    • Provide assistance in the orientation and mentorship of new staff.
  • School and Community Engagement:
    • Maintain effective communication with staff, students, parents, and community stakeholders.
    • Assist with the planning and execution of school events and programs.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Master's degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field.
    • Valid California Administrative Services Credential (preferred but not required).
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of five years of teaching experience, preferably in a high school or adult education setting.
    • Prior experience in a leadership or administrative role within a school setting.
  • Skills:
    • Strong instructional leadership with a deep understanding of curriculum development and program design.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to coach and mentor teachers.
    • Proficiency in data analysis and the use of assessment tools to drive instruction.
    • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
    • Familiarity with instructional technology, Google platforms, and Microsoft Office.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Spanish fluency is highly preferred.
  • Experience in working with diverse student populations, including English Language Learners.

Work Environment:

  • The Dean of Instruction will primarily work in a school environment, interacting with students, staff, and administrators. The role may require morning, evening meetings. Travel between school sites may be necessary 30 – 40 percent depending on the time of the year and needs of every location.

Physical Demands:

  • Mobility to move around the campus to observe classrooms and attend meetings.
  • Occasional lifting of materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Frequent use of a computer and office equipment.
