Corporate Banking Credit Analyst II

What is the Opportunity?

This role is integral to the loan management process, offering expertise in credit assessment and loan underwriting to a Corporate Banking team. The position involves evaluating potential loan transactions and assessing the creditworthiness of borrowers. The Credit Officer II is responsible for validating the credit analyses conducted by Credit Analysts and providing informed opinions and recommendations concerning proposed credit and associated risks. Thorough due diligence and background evaluations are essential before submitting the Credit Risk Recommendation ("CRR").

Key Responsibilities

  • Examine loan applications, financial statements, and third-party reports (such as real estate appraisals, environmental assessments, and inventory evaluations); assess and establish credit structures and terms; prepare comprehensive CRRs in accordance with Bank standards, policies, and procedures; analyze funding sources and allocations; evaluate industry data, competitive dynamics, historical performance, projected outcomes, risks, and mitigating strategies. Ensure that the CRR includes a well-supported recommendation or decision, with accurate risk ratings and validated data and analytics.
  • Participate in client meetings at the request of the Relationship Manager, Team Lead, or Credit Manager to facilitate the delivery of credit products and assist in resolving issues. Engage directly with borrowers to gather additional information and clarify financial documents.
  • Offer balanced and appropriate credit guidance to the Relationship Manager, Team Lead, and/or Manager, collaborating to determine the most suitable credit strategy.
  • Propose credit alternatives and innovative structuring options that align with profitability and portfolio risk standards. Draft credit approval memoranda.
  • Advise the Relationship Manager and Manager when loan pricing does not accurately reflect the inherent risks of the transaction, whether pricing is excessively high or low. Restructure loans and/or lines of credit as necessary, taking responsibility for minimizing potential Bank losses.
  • Conduct quarterly reporting on Problem Loans for Criticized/Classified credits, including financial assessments of clients' conditions and monitoring compliance with covenants. Take a proactive stance in developing and implementing Action Plans, escalating potential credit concerns to the Relationship Manager, Manager, and/or Credit Manager.
  • Play a key role in the early identification of problem loans and ensure timely and accurate adjustments in loan grades. Monitor past due accounts and collaborate with the Relationship Manager to address issues.
  • Maintain current knowledge of all Bank lending policies and regulations. Consult with the Credit Manager and relevant Bank personnel regarding new and existing lending requirements and regulations.
  • May oversee loan documentation processes, collaborating with legal counsel or other external advisors to secure accurate documentation that protects the Bank's interests in credit relationships. Regularly review collateral to mitigate credit exposure.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in underwriting corporate banking loans.

  • Comprehensive understanding of corporate banking credit policies and procedures.
  • Extensive application of credit principles and concepts.
  • Strong credit analysis and accounting skills, with the ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms.
  • Exceptional organizational abilities.
  • Capability to work independently while effectively interacting with all levels of Bank personnel and external contacts.

Compensation

Starting base salary: $82.86 per hour. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. This position is eligible for bonuses and/or commissions.
