The Opportunity:

We are looking to fill several positions for the Custodial Specialist I role. Candidates applying for this position will also be considered for other openings within the department. As a Custodial Specialist I, you will play a vital role in ensuring the cleanliness and operational efficiency of campus facilities, contributing to a safe and inviting environment for all. Your responsibilities will include a diverse range of tasks, responding to urgent situations, and participating in a collaborative work setting through cross-training initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough cleaning of surfaces, furniture, walls, and equipment, upholding high standards of cleanliness.
  • Vacuum carpeted areas, including relocating furniture as necessary, and perform spot cleaning as needed.
  • Sweep, mop, and maintain various flooring surfaces, including stairwells and entryways.
  • Manage waste disposal and recycling processes, ensuring cleanliness throughout the facility.
  • Clean and replenish supplies in restrooms and common areas to maintain hygiene and availability.
  • Execute carpet shampooing and extraction as per established cleaning schedules.
  • Assist with basic maintenance duties such as painting, changing light bulbs, and minor repairs.
  • Respond swiftly to emergencies and urgent requests, including water damage and air quality issues, ensuring prompt resolution.
  • Perform tasks that require standing for extended periods and lifting up to 50 lbs.
Minimum Qualifications:

Completion of 9th grade or an equivalent combination of education and experience as per Florida Statutes.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Over one year of experience in a custodial or related position.
  • Experience with basic maintenance tasks in commercial or residential settings.
  • Familiarity with both small and large tools essential for cleaning and maintenance.
  • Proficiency in standard office software and work order systems.
  • Understanding of safety protocols and proper chemical usage as per Environmental Health & Safety guidelines.
  • Customer service-oriented with the ability to interact professionally with staff.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of following written and verbal instructions.
  • Basic decision-making skills to identify and address cleaning and maintenance needs.
  • Adaptability to work in various environmental conditions and schedules.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
Health Assessment Required:

Completion and passing of a physical examination is required for this position.

Special Instructions for Applicants:

This position requires a valid Class E driver's license, as driving to various locations may be necessary for university-related tasks.
