Senior Leader in Oncology Research and Development

About the Role
The University of California, San Diego (UC San Diego) is seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual to fill the position of Deputy Director of Cancer Research and Clinical Trials. This is a key leadership role within the Moores Cancer Center, which is committed to advancing cancer research and improving patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Cancer Center Director and Associate Directors to develop and implement the strategic vision and long-term plans for the Cancer Center's research enterprise.
- Provide leadership and direction for the translational and clinical research activities of the Moores Cancer Center, with a focus on expanding the national prominence of our clinical-research portfolio.
- Represent the Director and Moores Cancer Center and UC San Diego in multiple campus-wide, statewide, and national organizations.
- Foster and expand clinical research studies and trials, and bring clinical study results and clinical care observations to population and laboratory scientists for further exploration.
- Play a leading role in the recruitment of promising and established faculty members to achieve the MCC's goals, in alignment with its strategic plan.
Requirements
- MD or equivalent or MD, PhD in health-related fields.
- 10+ years track record of extensive oncology clinical trial and translational research experience.
- Proven extramural funding in clinical and translational research and clinical trials.
- 7+ years of experience in mentorship and training in oncology clinical and translational research.
- 5+ years of demonstrated experience working with industry on oncology translation.
- 5+ years of experience working as part of a collaborative executive leadership team.
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years of demonstrated leadership experience in cancer research leadership within an NCI-designated cancer center.
