Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Food Service Assistant to join our team at the Rural Alaska Community Action Program. As a Food Service Assistant, you will play a critical role in ensuring the health and well-being of our clients by providing exceptional food service and meal preparation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Food Service and Meal Preparation: Assist in planning, preparing, and serving meals and snacks to clients, ensuring compliance with all applicable federal and state sanitation and safety regulations.
  • Inventory Management: Assist with the purchase of food, kitchen sanitation, and safety, ensuring that all food service areas are clean and orderly.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of meal counts, inventory, food weights, and temperature, as well as other food service data.
  • Substitution and Support: Substitute for the Food Service Specialist as needed and provide support with classroom activities and other tasks as required.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: High school degree or equivalent required; previous serving experience and experience working with young children preferred.
  • Skills and Abilities: Ability to read, comprehend, and follow established policies and procedures; ability to manage work time well, prioritize, and meet deadlines; ability to exercise good judgment, courtesy, and tact.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift and carry 40 pounds of weight; ability to perform physical activities such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, bending, and handling materials.
Working Conditions
  • Work Environment: The Rural Alaska Community Action Program is a mandated drug and alcohol-free workplace; ability to work effectively in a team environment and maintain confidentiality.
  • Travel: Occasional travel may be required for training and other work-related activities.
