Our Facilities Department is currently looking for a 3rd Shift Building Systems Engineer to become part of our expanding team.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position.

POSITION SUMMARY:
This role is highly visible, requiring strong customer service and interpersonal skills. The Building Systems Engineer focuses on the upkeep, troubleshooting, and repair of facility systems and equipment. This position demands technical proficiency in a specific trade while being versatile in other areas (e.g., plumbing, electrical work). The Building Systems Engineer will have advanced training and be pursuing the necessary licensure for their trade.

This role is classified as essential personnel, necessitating minimal absences and availability during all site closures, except in cases of major disasters when access is restricted by governmental emergency personnel.

The individual in this position must be available for on-call work and perform additional duties as required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Demonstrate proficiency in using various hand and power tools and equipment.

Ensure all work orders are completed and documented appropriately within the specified timeframes.

Conduct routine inspections of equipment. Execute detailed maintenance tasks, including the installation, operation, and upkeep of all equipment and components that support the facility, such as HVAC systems, building management systems, chillers, boilers, emergency generators, and compressed air systems.

Perform preventive maintenance on all essential building and critical system equipment, which includes:

gathering all necessary tools, supplies, and instruments to complete tasks, executing work with minimal disruption, conducting immediate cleanup of the work area, completing preventive maintenance checklists, returning tools to the workshop, and reporting any equipment issues or supply shortages.

Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to carry out necessary maintenance and service. Identify faulty operations or defective equipment, repairing or reporting these issues to the appropriate supervision. May adjust functional components of mechanical devices as needed. May assemble and install mechanical and electromechanical systems and equipment.

May troubleshoot and repair systems requiring isolation of malfunctions, disassembly of equipment, and repair or replacement of components.

Adhere to all applicable local, state, and national codes. Responsible for overseeing contractor activities within the buildings and coordinating services with external vendors and contractors. Supervise critical equipment such as fire/life safety alarm systems and elevator maintenance.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Possess prior safety training such as NFPA 70e and OSHA10 Education
  • Minimum of a high school diploma.
College/Technical Degree preferred Massachusetts driver's license Completion of apprenticeship requirements or greater Knowledge of applicable local, state, and national codes Ability to interpret construction drawings and diagrams Typically has 4-9 years of relevant experience. Has completed or is in the process of obtaining licensure in a specific trade (e.g., journeyman) and/or relevant training Applies advanced skills in specialization May adapt procedures and techniques to meet position requirements Duties and tasks are varied and moderately complex Resolves most questions and issues, referring only the most complex matters to higher levels Works with minimal supervision May assist in orienting, training, assigning, and reviewing the work of less experienced employees

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work hours may include days and evenings on weekdays and weekends Ability to stand or walk for extended periods Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 100lbs) 25-50% of the time.

Ability to climb and work on ladders and scaffolds Physical stamina and endurance. Manual dexterity Ability to operate a motor vehicle. Ability to work collaboratively. Ability to repeatedly bend, twist, stoop, kneel, crawl, and squat for extended periods (25%-75% of the time). Ability to climb to heights (e.g., ladder) and maintain balance for extended periods while performing tasks. Ability to operate hand and power tools. Ability to report to work in adverse weather conditions. Ability to perform tasks in a loud/noisy work environment. May be exposed to various chemicals.
