We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Civil Engineer to join our team at the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for directing the work of other professional engineers and staff, overseeing the design and preparation of contract plans, and administering the review of contract submittals and progress payments.
Key Responsibilities- Administer the design and preparation of contract plans, specifications, and cost estimates for waterway facilities.
- Oversee the monitoring and inspection of District construction activities and materials for conformance with established criteria.
- Coordinate the resolution of construction problems and administer the investigation of construction claims.
- Supervise all canal operations, debris removal, water quality monitoring, and two-way radio communications throughout the District.
- Coordinate the preparation of technical studies and reports to evaluate process and/or equipment feasibility and the application of alternative technology to District facilities and procedures.
- Oversee the preparation of budget documentation and the monitoring of expenditures.
- Direct the procurement of right-of-way easements and permits, and oversee surveying and mapping operations.
- Coordinate with design, construction, maintenance, and operations personnel, regulatory agencies, labor organizations, and developers in accomplishing the operating and engineering contract objectives of the District.
- Present recommendations regarding strategic planning and oversee the implementation and maintenance of computer technologies.
- Assign, supervise, and review work, ensuring staff compliance with district policies and procedures, including Personnel Rules and Administrative Procedures.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois.
- Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university majoring in chemical, civil, environmental, sanitary, or structural engineering.
- Eight years of full-time, post-degree civil engineering experience, with four years in work related to the District's activities, three years in the supervision of degreed engineers, and one year in an administrative capacity.
- Full-time graduate study in the designated fields of engineering may be substituted for the required non-specialized experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years.
- Civil service status in one of the foregoing classifications.
Typical office environment. May use standard office equipment and computer terminals. May involve working in close proximity to or in conjunction with construction activities and heavy equipment, and may require exposure to a variety of weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
