Job Summary:

The Associate Head Coach, Women's Volleyball is a key member of the Merrimack College Athletics department, responsible for assisting the Director of Volleyball in all aspects of running a NCAA Division I women's volleyball program. This includes recruiting academically qualified prospective student-athletes, developing and implementing training sessions, practices and game plans, educating and coaching student-athletes, and supporting student-athletes in their personal, academic and athletic development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Recruit quality student-athletes to meet specified enrollment goals, including evaluating talent, visiting/communicating with prospective student-athletes and parents/guardians, planning on-campus visits and completing the appropriate forms and communication with the athletic compliance office, as needed.
  • Determine athletic scholarship allocation for prospective student-athletes, working within requirements set and communicated by athletic administration.
  • Organize, plan and conduct effective and efficient team practices and individual skill instruction sessions with demonstrated ability to teach and instruct the sport of volleyball.
  • Prepare individual players and the team for competition; use of video and technology to teach, improve and develop players.
  • Participate in the development of the whole student-athlete — athletically, academically and personally, regarding individual well-being and life skills.
  • Scout opposing teams and assist in the breakdown of game film for teaching purposes.
  • Conduct coaching and student-athlete meetings.
  • Help monitor the academic progress of student-athletes.
  • Work alongside the Director of Volleyball to build a community of fans and friends, both on and off campus, to support and engage with the women's volleyball program.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Volleyball on fundraising initiatives by engaging in joint fundraising events and building clinic opportunities for both programs.
  • Represent the program with the highest level of professionalism, sportsmanship and integrity.
  • Foster a culture that demonstrates a commitment to NCAA rules compliance, Conference rules and protocols, and institutional policies.
  • Support a culture that demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as well as trust and mutual respect.
  • Participate in departmental activities including staff meetings, compliance education, diversity, equity and inclusion training, guest speaker presentations and other events/meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • 1-2 years of previous women's volleyball coaching experience.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and intercollegiate athletics.
  • Demonstrated recruiting skills and knowledge.
  • Knowledge of video editing and production.
  • Commitment to supporting the academic success and overall well-being of student-athletes.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills including the ability to prioritize and complete tasks by established deadlines.
  • Collegiate volleyball playing experience is preferred.
