Position Overview:

Under the guidance of a physician, optometrist, or departmental administrator, the Ophthalmic Imaging Specialist is responsible for conducting a range of standardized diagnostic evaluations of the eye. These assessments are crucial for the identification and management of ocular diseases and visual impairments.
Key Responsibilities:

This outline serves for recruitment purposes and is subject to further HR evaluation.
- Assess visual acuity prior to any diagnostic procedures or imaging tasks.
- Assist the physician in clarifying testing methods, potential side effects, and aftercare instructions.
- Execute visual field assessments using various standard techniques: Automated central and peripheral fields, Tangent screens, and Goldman perimetry.
- Determine lens prescriptions as necessary before testing and document results accurately.
- Conduct keratometry, interferometry, lensometry, and tonometry as required.
- Perform precise ultrasound A-scan measurements and IOL calculations for cataract procedures; may also conduct B-scan examinations to identify ocular irregularities or foreign objects, including in surgical environments.
- Proficiently utilize photographic techniques for the following:
- Conduct fluorescein angiography in the correct sequence and capture stereo and color fundus images.
- Execute iris angiography in the appropriate order.
- Capture images of the anterior chamber using a slit lamp, including the conjunctiva, cornea, iris, and lens.
- Document external eye anatomy or facial features through microphotography with a 35-mm or Polaroid camera.
- Photograph conjunctival and corneal anomalies using a corneascope camera and/or corneal topography.
- Capture images during ocular surgical procedures as necessary.
- Demonstrate expertise in digital photography and data transfer to CDs.
- Understand the fundamental operations of a 35-mm camera and the variable settings of a Polaroid camera.
- Be knowledgeable about common film types, including black and white, color negative prints, and color slides, along with their sensitivity ratings.
- Familiarity with darkroom techniques for film processing and printing, especially if digital equipment fails.
- Evaluate patient conditions by observing signs, symptoms, and responses to testing, and report any unusual reactions to the RN and physician.
- Possess basic computer skills.
- Maintain an organized filing system for all diagnostic imaging and testing reports.
- Ensure a clean and orderly workspace, replenishing supplies as needed.
- Perform additional duties as required to support the overall functionality of the department.
- Foster and maintain courteous and cooperative relationships with patients, the public, and colleagues.
- Uphold exceptional customer service standards consistent with the organization's commitment to quality care. Qualifications:

Experience

• Minimum of two (2) years in an outpatient clinical environment.

Education
  • N/A
License, Certification, Registration
  • Ophthalmic Technician Certificate or Ophthalmic Assistant Certificate from The Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology
Preferred Qualifications:
  • JCAPHO certification is advantageous.
Additional Information:
  • Rotating weekend shifts may be required.
  • Full-time position with 40 hours per week.
  • Travel may be necessary for various locations.
  • This is a temporary role for approximately three months.
