Oakland Promise is dedicated to ensuring that every child in Oakland graduates from high school equipped with the necessary skills, resources, and aspirations to succeed in college and their chosen careers. Our organization encompasses four key initiatives: Brilliant Baby, Kindergarten to College (K2C), Future Centers, and College Scholarships and Completion, all designed to provide a comprehensive support system from early childhood through higher education. Our strategies impact children and families across various educational stages, ultimately leading to scholarships and ongoing support for college students. Our mission is to significantly enhance the number of college graduates from Oakland and foster a college-bound identity among all students, irrespective of their backgrounds.
Kindergarten to College (K2C) focuses on instilling a college and career-oriented mindset in students from kindergarten through fifth grade. We offer scholarships, technical assistance, and incentives for families to establish college savings accounts. Additionally, we facilitate programs that promote a college-going culture among students, including college visits, family workshops, scholarship celebrations, and more.
Key Responsibilities:
K2C Program Implementation
- Ensure that a designated group of K2C schools effectively implement the program.
- Organize and lead K2C events, including celebrations, workshops, and college/career activities.
- Support engagement initiatives that align with the K2C objectives of the schools.
- Conduct site visits, both in-person and virtually, to strengthen relationships with school teams.
- Communicate organization-wide events and initiatives.
- Train school personnel to conduct K2C informational sessions for parents and students.
- Design outreach activities to engage families in the K2C program.
- Maintain accurate records and regularly analyze data related to school cohorts.
Support for K2C Events
- Participate in events at assigned schools.
- Assist with K2C-specific and organization-wide tabling and events.
Communications
- Manage K2C's social media channels, developing outreach strategies and creating engaging content.
- Produce video content to showcase the efforts of the K2C and College Access teams.
- Develop promotional materials for K2C and College Access initiatives.
- Maintain communication with existing partners and stakeholders.
Program Development
- Assist in creating materials for both students and families.
- Support outreach efforts to build community partnerships.
- Contribute to program infrastructure, including data management and communication platforms.
Additional Duties
- Conduct research on college savings accounts and college-going culture as needed.
- Collaborate with team members on various Oakland Promise events.
- If bilingual, provide translation and interpretation support.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Strong commitment to educational equity.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Exceptional interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Availability for occasional evening and weekend work.
- Access to a vehicle for travel to various sites.
- Creative thinker willing to implement diverse engagement strategies.
- Self-motivated and empathetic individual.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency in a language other than English.
- Experience in developing training materials.
- Background in education, particularly in direct engagement with students and families.
- Experience in management, education policy, or teaching.
Compensation:
- Annual salary range of $66,000 to $68,000.
- This is a full-time, non-exempt position.
- Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, sick leave, paid vacation, and a 401k match up to 3%.
