Position Overview

This role is responsible for managing requests for laboratory analysis by acquiring specimens and entering necessary data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS). A fundamental understanding of associated functions within the Health Information System (HIS) is essential. The position emphasizes meeting patient needs in a professional and efficient manner.

Key Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collects blood samples and other specimens from patients, adhering to established laboratory protocols for specimen acquisition, handling, and processing. Ensures compliance with Positive Patient Identification throughout the specimen collection and delivery process.
  • Processes laboratory test-related information (either electronically or on paper) in the Laboratory Information System, in accordance with established policies. Effectively utilizes Hand Held Systems as required.
  • Strictly follows National Patient Safety Goals, HIPAA Guidelines, and AIDET Expectations.
  • Prioritizes laboratory test requests and responds to STAT and Time Request tests promptly.
  • Engages effectively with physicians, patients, and other support services, addressing customer concerns and comfort in a positive manner. Answers phone inquiries promptly and professionally.
  • Participates in inventory management to ensure optimal resource utilization.
  • Assists in the training of new staff members.
Qualifications

JOB SPECIFICATIONS (Minimum Requirements)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • General understanding of phlebotomy techniques and practices.
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership abilities.
  • Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Ability to deliver compassionate patient care and support.
  • Self-motivated, energetic, and driven.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & CERTIFICATION
  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent is required.
  • Successful completion of a Phlebotomy Program from an accredited institution.
  • Preferred experience in a hospital or clinical environment closely related to the essential functions of this role.
  • PBT (ASCP) or equivalent certification within two years of employment.
