Community Living Support Specialist

The Arc Carroll County is dedicated to empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in their quest for a meaningful life. Our Community Living Department provides 24/7 support to individuals residing in our facilities. The Residential Advisor (RA) plays a crucial role in ensuring the well-being and growth of residents. The RA is responsible for guiding residents in developing daily living skills and overseeing the daily operations of the home in accordance with state regulations and organizational policies.
Position Overview: The RA position entails a 40-hour work week, with some evening and weekend shifts required.
Key Responsibilities of the Residential Advisor:
- Manage monthly scheduling and coordinate to fill any open shifts as necessary.
- Provide oversight and support to direct care staff, ensuring completion of daily responsibilities.
- Supervise staff members within the home, including training, shift scheduling, and performance evaluations. Facilitate the onboarding process for new staff.
- Engage in the development and revision of the Person-Centered Plan (PCP); actively participate in the PCP process and implement activities designed to achieve the objectives outlined in the PCP.
- Assist residents in gaining independence and enhancing their social living skills.
- Support residents with essential life skills and needs, such as personal hygiene, while collaborating with other staff to ensure all resident needs are met.
- Plan and prepare nutritious meals, manage grocery shopping within budget constraints, and ensure the overall nutritional needs of residents are fulfilled.
- Maintain accurate records: document daily activities, review and approve time sheets, uphold residential program policies, and complete incident reports as needed.
- Track progress towards person-centered goals using iCare Manager.
- Ensure the cleanliness of the residence, encouraging resident participation in household chores and maintenance of personal clothing.
- Transport residents to scheduled activities or appointments.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all residents.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications for the Residential Advisor:
- Associate's degree or 60 credit hours in human services or related fields, or 15 credit hours in human services with one year of relevant experience. A High School Diploma or GED with three years of experience may be considered.
- Intermediate proficiency in computer skills.
- Completion of CPR, First Aid, and other required training by the Developmental Disabilities Administration and The Arc.
- Possession of a valid driver's license with no more than two points on record.
- Successful completion of a drug screening and a clean criminal background check.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to frequently lift and manipulate at least 50 pounds, with occasional lifting, carrying, or exerting force exceeding 100 pounds.
- Capability to endure prolonged periods of standing and frequent bending, stooping, reaching, pulling, and pushing, including lifting and repositioning individuals.
- Ability to assist individuals in transferring between chairs, vehicles, and beds, and to secure individuals in wheelchairs during transport.
