Position Overview

We are seeking a Safety Coordinator responsible for safeguarding the health and safety of personnel across our mining and processing operations. This role includes the development and management of safety initiatives, conducting thorough inspections, ensuring adherence to safety regulations, including those mandated by the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), and cultivating a robust safety culture throughout our operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and manage comprehensive safety programs for mining and processing operations, ensuring compliance with MSHA regulations and other applicable standards.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of mining sites and processing facilities to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
  • Ensure adherence to safety policies and procedures, recommending enhancements as necessary.
  • Assist the Safety Manager in developing and delivering safety training programs for staff, including orientation for new hires and ongoing training sessions.
  • Stay informed on industry standards, best practices, and regulatory updates to integrate into training and safety protocols.
  • Lead or assist in safety drills, emergency response exercises, and safety meetings to reinforce safety practices.
  • Investigate accidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Maintain detailed records of safety incidents, investigations, and follow-up actions.
  • Report on safety performance, incidents, and regulatory compliance to management and relevant authorities.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and industry standards across mining and processing operations.
  • Prepare and submit necessary safety documentation and reports to regulatory bodies and management.
  • Assist in the preparation for and management of external safety audits and inspections.
  • Act as a liaison between the Safety Manager, employees, and contractors, addressing safety concerns and promoting a safety-first culture.
  • Encourage open communication regarding safety issues and motivate employees to report unsafe conditions.
  • Collaborate with various departments to integrate safety practices into daily operations and project planning.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience in a safety role within mining and processing environments.
  • Relevant safety certifications, including MSHA certification, are preferred (e.g., Certified Safety Professional (CSP)).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of MSHA regulations, safety standards, and best practices for mining and industrial settings.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in mining and processing environments, including exposure to dust, noise, and varying weather conditions.
  • Capability to perform physical tasks, such as lifting, inspecting equipment, and navigating uneven terrain.
