Position Summary
We are seeking a Safety Coordinator to oversee the health and safety of our workforce in mining and processing operations. This role is pivotal in developing and managing safety initiatives, conducting thorough inspections, ensuring adherence to safety regulations, and cultivating a safety-first culture across all operations. The Safety Coordinator will collaborate closely with the Safety Manager, team members, and contractors to identify risks, implement preventive strategies, and effectively address safety issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and manage comprehensive safety programs for mining and processing operations, ensuring compliance with industry regulations.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits of mining sites and processing facilities to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
- Ensure adherence to safety policies and procedures, recommending enhancements as necessary.
- Assist the Safety Manager in developing and delivering safety training programs for all employees, including orientation for new hires and ongoing training sessions.
- Stay informed about industry standards, best practices, and regulatory updates to integrate into training and safety protocols.
- Lead or assist in safety drills, emergency response training, and safety meetings to reinforce safety practices.
- Investigate accidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain detailed records of safety incidents, investigations, and follow-up actions.
- Report on safety performance, incidents, and compliance to management and relevant authorities.
- Prepare and submit necessary safety documentation and reports to regulatory bodies and management.
- Assist in preparing for and managing external safety audits and inspections.
- Act as a liaison between the Safety Manager, employees, and contractors, addressing safety concerns and promoting a culture of safety.
- Encourage open communication regarding safety issues and motivate employees to report unsafe conditions.
- Collaborate with various departments to integrate safety practices into daily operations and project planning.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of experience in a safety role within mining and processing environments.
- Relevant safety certifications, including MSHA certification, are preferred (e.g., Certified Safety Professional (CSP)).
- Thorough understanding of MSHA regulations, safety standards, and best practices for mining and industrial environments.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in mining and processing environments, including exposure to dust, noise, and varying weather conditions.
- Capability to perform physical tasks, such as lifting, inspecting equipment, and navigating uneven terrain.
