Director of R&D Innovation

At CPS, Inc. (Food & Beverage Division), we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of R&D to lead our team in the application of our flavor portfolio and technologies.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and lead short- and long-term projects and demos for customer and market-facing opportunities that support customer development and growth.
- Lead daily brief-related tasks and apply knowledge during the flavor selection, evaluation, and application development.
- Serve as a technical expert, project leader, and advisor to the commercial team, including marketing, sales, flavor creation, and customers.
- Deliver against customer briefs, ensuring that flavors and finished products align with project constraints.
- Independently develop and creatively present custom demos catered to the client, demonstrating our capabilities and understanding of current flavor trends.
- Manage and update demo catalog to support customer presentations.
- Support sales with training updates on the portfolio and with customer visits when needed, providing technical assistance and explanation of products being demonstrated.
- Food Science, Chemistry, or Biology Degree and/or equivalent work experience, with preferably a minimum of 10 years in the food or flavor industry.
- Food and Beverage Application Development Experience, 10 years preferred, and flavor formulation experience.
- Knowledgeable and current regarding the use of functional ingredients to support application development beyond flavors.
- Team Management Experience, 3-5 years preferable.
- Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
- Strong Presentation Skills.
- Ability to thrive in a high-energy and fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational skills and follow-through.
- General knowledge of food safety requirements and shelf-life stability for finished product development.
- Broad understanding of flavor characteristics such as solubility, stability, and reactivity.
- Ability to describe flavors and finished products with appropriate sensory language.
- Knowledge of industry software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Salesforce or related CRM tools).
- Responsibilities include all employees in the Applications department.
- Responsible for ensuring the quality, safety, compliance, and productivity of the laboratory operations.
- Interviewing, hiring, and coordinating training of employees.
- Mentoring & training technologists to expand knowledge base and capabilities.
- Employee development plans.
- Time off approval.
- Providing supporting documents for reviewing process.
- Addressing complaints and resolving problems, including disciplinary actions.
