Position Summary

The College and Career Counselor plays a crucial role within the KIPP Forward Match Team at KIPP King Collegiate High School. This position is focused on guiding students and their families as they navigate their post-secondary options and take actionable steps towards their future goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide essential counseling support to students and families, ensuring that all students feel recognized and empowered in their post-secondary pursuits.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Manager of College and Career Counseling and Seminar Teachers to implement initiatives that promote student success.
  • Design and deliver programming that aligns with the College Knowledge and Career Success Curriculum.
  • Conduct one-on-one meetings with students to track their progress in creating wish lists, completing applications, and fulfilling matriculation requirements.
  • Facilitate Family Meetings to offer personalized support and guidance.
  • Participate in planning and executing College and Career Success Nights to provide vital information to students and families.
  • Engage in IEP meetings and collaborate with team members to address the needs of students and families effectively.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success and belief in the potential of all students to pursue higher education.
  • Proven ability to foster inclusive environments that celebrate diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess data and drive program improvements.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Proficient in using Google Suite applications and other instructional technologies.
Additional Information

All candidates must adhere to KIPP's mission and values, demonstrating a commitment to anti-racist education and fostering strong relationships with students, families, and communities. A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and a valid California Preliminary Credential or equivalent is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with diverse student populations.
  • 2+ years of experience in college admissions or college match support.
  • Proficiency in a second language such as Spanish, Arabic, Vietnamese, or Mandarin is a plus.
